2025 Summer Season Events at the GEM

Memorial Day Weekend

The Grand Encampment Museum opens its summer season on Saturday, May 24! 

Come visit C.J. Box, on Sunday, May 25, 3:30-4:30 and have him sign your copy of his latest novel, Battle Mountain.  The museum has copies to purchase in the gift shop.

Fri.-Sat., July 11-12, Henry Crawford:Buffalo Hunter’s Camp and Presentation

Henry Crawford has participated in living history and reenacting activities for 45 years, sharing his expertise through lectures and consulting on living history philosophy, techniques, and research at sites across the U.S.A. His living history areas of expertise include the Western Fur Trade, American Civil War (Infantry, Artillery and Mounted Cavalry), The U.S. Frontier Military, and 1870s Buffalo Hunting.

Come see his buffalo hunter’s camp at the GEM and stick around for his presentation.

Wednesday, July 23, 5:30-6:30 Bob Herring and the Vietnam War

This year marks 50 years since the end of The Vietnam War.  Come and listen to local Vietnam veteran, Bob Herring share his experience in that conflict.

Saturday, July 26, Annual Living History Day

Come help us make ice cream the old fashioned way and play Poker with the gamblers. Learn to sew on an old fashioned machine and stitch a quilt. Compete in a stick horse rodeo!  Our annual Living History Day returns Saturday, July 26.  Don’t forget to check out the Mountain Man Rendezvous July 25-27 right next to the GEM.
