Attention for Summer 2024 Opening and Events
The Grand Encampment Museum opens for the 2023 summer season on Saturday, May 27. Come join us that day with a visit from CJ Box on Saturday, May 25 at 4:00-5:00pm. Also, the GEM’s History Symposium returns to the museum on August 16-17. The theme is Filming the West featuring experts, authors, and historians and film makers exploring the traditions and issues of the resources of the west. The operating hours for this season are Tuesday-Saturday, 9am-5pm and Sunday, noon-4pm. We hope to see you here at the GEM of Southern Wyoming and have a great summer!
Saturday- Sunday, June 15-16: Woodchoppers Jamboree, Parade & Rodeo

Author, journalist, and filmmaker Alan O’Hashi will be presenting his newest novel, Libby Flats.
July 26-28 – Sierra Madre Muzzleloader Mountain Man Rendezvous
Experience the Mountain Man life! This annual rendezvous coincides with Living History Day at the GEM. Visitors can experience how mountain men and women lived in a fur trade economy in the 1830’s.

August 16-17- 4th Annual Grand Encampment History Symposium
Filming the West
The theme is Filming the West featuring experts, authors, historians, film makers exploring the traditions and issues of the west.
This year’s history Symposium may be the best one yet! Titled Filming the West, it will feature Candy Moulton and her film Battle of Red Buttes, Steve Peck and Wyoming Chronicle, Jordan Dresser and Sophie Barksdale with Who She Is, and Alan O’Hashi presenting The Arapaho Covered Wagon. Also, there will be a special viewing of the local 1970s production Treasure of the Hidden Valley! You don’t want to miss this fascinating event on August 16&17.

Friday, August 16 at 6:00– Viewing of Treasure of the Hidden Valley, followed by Candy Moulton presenting The Battle of Red Buttes.
Saturday, August 17:
10:00am– Steve Peck presents Wyoming PBS’ Wyoming Chronicle
1:00pm– Jordan Dresser and Sophie Barksdale present their film, Who She Is, a film about the missing and murdered women on American Indian Reservations.
3:00pm– Alan O’Hashi presents Arapaho Covered Wagon Redux with the soundtrack by Northern Arapaho Eagle Society.
Annual Historic Trek- August 24
Trek to the historic Aspen Alley Ranch. Explore tipi and fire rings left behind by the Utes many years ago.
